As a follow up, if it's the external fuel pump...

...you can definitely install that yourself. It's a very easy job.

You may want to check your fuel lines. If they are deteriorated, go ahead and change them out when you do the fuel pump.

Buy the fuel hose by the foot from Pelican/BMP/Bav Auto...5' is probably enough to do the entire car. I think it's a "metric size", thus you may not find what you want at your local auto parts store. Also make sure you buy "fuel hose." It's made to hold up to gasoline.
